The All-New 2025 Nissan Murano
The Nissan mid-size Murano crossover has always been a style leader, so it may come as a bit of a surprise that the current design has been with us for an entire decade. From 2015 through 2024, the current Murano has had minor updates and advancements in tech, but the basic design has not changed. Nissan wasn’t slacking, as the Pathfinder, Rogue, and Kicks all have recent designs, and for 2025, the Murano gets its due. As redesigns go, this is a big one. From bumper to bumper, about the only thing that remains the same are the trim level names. Dick Smith Nissan of Columbia is here to tell you about it.
The changes are pretty straightforward at first glance. The Murano’s form has changed entirely. Inspired by the ARYIA EV, the former arrowhead-shaped headlights give way to slim, horizontal lights at the top of the front, with a gloss black bar between them. Below lies the grille, which is the most significant advancement of the V-motion grille to date. There is no surrounding frame; it just emerges from the bodywork with horizontal slats that turn into multiple LED daytime running lights on each side.
The roofline is one consistent curve from A- to D-pillar, accented by chrome upper window trim that gracefully extends past the windows to the tailgate. The lower body is thick, with gentle curves accentuating the rear fenders. Nissan was particularly interested in giving the Murano a clean goodbye with rear styling that is anchored by a full-width LED tail light. The exhaust outlets are hidden, the rear license holder has been brought down to the bumper, and the rear wiper is hidden underneath the rear spoiler.
Arguably, even more significant changes lie under the hood because while pretty much all previous Muranos have been powered by a 3.5-liter V6, the 2025 model has, you guessed it, changed.
For 2025, the Murano will be powered by Nissan’s 4-cylinder 2.0-liter “VC-Turbo,” which stands for “variable-compression-ratio, turbocharged.” Nissan built a unique variable compression technology that does away with the norm that turbocharged engines must have a low compression rate. Instead, it has high compression for improved performance when the turbocharger boost is low and backs it off when the turbo boost rises. It is the same engine used in the Infiniti QX60 3-row crossover but in a smaller body. For this application, It produces 241 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque.
Also new is the transmission. Nissan has discarded its continuously variable transmission for an all-new 9-speed gear changer. On the SV grade, the power is either sent to the front wheels or, optionally, to all four. SV and Platinum have AWD as standard. In either case, the fuel mileage is the same at 23 in the city and 24 on the highway.
As you may have guessed, the interior is all new as well. Like the front and rear exterior styling, horizontal is the prevailing theme. A broad swath of a “Murano glass” panel runs from door to door, interrupted only by the steering column. Above it sits a landscape-format 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. A digital gauge cluster is standard, and there is a mid-century modern architecture vibe in the way the glare cover curves over the gauge cluster and extends over the center screen, nicely integrating the whole upper information section. Wireless integration for both Apple and Android phones is standard. Even without a phone present, you can access Google Maps and use the intuitive Google Assistant voice command system on the SL and Platinum models thanks to the Google Built-in operating system.
Standard across the model line are a power liftgate, power-adjustable heated front seats, and the Nissan Safety Shield360 driver-assistance features. The SL grade adds a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera view, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system. The Platinum trim lays the luxury on thick with semi-aniline leather, a head-up display, ventilated and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, and a motion-activated power liftgate.
You can expect to see the 2025 Murano in the Dick Smith Nissan of Columbia showroom in the first quarter of 2025. Prices will be available closer to the arrival date.
