The Nissan Leaf is the first mass-produced and longest-running pure electric vehicle sold in America. Since 2011, the Leaf has been the benchmark for everyday usable EVs, known for its modest driving range, long-term reliability, and good safety. Every modern electric car can thank the Leaf for setting the path for buyers to feel comfortable about driving a car that doesn’t take gasoline.

All-new for 2026, customers will see the Leaf as a whole new kind of electric car. Its sleek crossover-like design features a lower drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.26, down from 0.29, which was already one of the lowest in the world. In fact, the new Leaf cuts through the air better than the $2.1 million+, 250-mph McLaren Speedtail hypercar.

The all-new Leaf is available in four different trim levels: S, S+, SV+, and Platinum+.

Performance

With a new 3-in-1 setup that includes an inverter, reducer, and motor put together, the electric powertrain is now 10% smaller while being more powerful. S models have a 52-kWh lithium-ion battery that produces 174 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque, and S+, SV+, and Platinum+ trims have a 75-kWh battery that delivers 214 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque.

Even with the extra power and torque, the Leaf still has more range than ever before, with 303 miles of driving range in the S+ trim, 288 for the SV+, and 259 in the top-of-the-line Platinum+. To charge the Leaf, Nissan adopted the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port as standard, allowing owners to utilize Tesla Superchargers all over the country. Using a DC fast charger, the Leaf can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes.

A battery heater is available that can be manually engaged by the driver to pre-warm the battery before charging in colder conditions.

Exterior

Designed to be a crossover, the new Leaf has a beautiful design with front LED headlights, an LED lightbar, and an optional illuminated Nissan logo. For the first time on the Leaf, Nissan added completely flush front door handles with rear door handles built into the C-pillar. The rear LED taillights have a special rectangular design that appears to go on forever. The curvy roofline leads to an integrated rear window that enhances the aerodynamic qualities of the Leaf, along with a spoiler that sits at a 45-degree angle.

S, S+, and SV+ trims give customers 18-inch wheels, with the Platinum+ having upgraded 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

Interior

Inside the Leaf, owners will find a larger interior than the previous generation. With the rear seats up, the new Leaf offers a generous 20 cubic feet of cargo space and 55.5 cubic feet when the seats are folded. The previous generation Leaf had just 30 cu.ft. When the seats are folded, the new third generation is more like a crossover without feeling too much like an SUV.

For the first time, the Leaf has a dimming panoramic roof that goes from transparent to very close to completely opaque simply by pushing a button. The roof is a multi-layer glass element that can block extra light and heat. Unlike most vehicles with panoramic roofs on the market, the system in the Leaf actually creates extra headroom.

The SV+ grade offers comfortable and environmentally friendly TailorFit front seats. Stepping up to the Platinum+ brings TailorFit rear seats. All models feature ambient lighting, with buyers of the Leaf Platinum+ getting multicolor lighting. Buyers can also opt for the unique Divide-N-Hide that gives owners extra cargo space below the rear trunk floor, which can also be removed for additional room.

To ensure better performance in colder climates, the Leaf offers a new heat pump for energy efficiency that is standard on SV+ and Platinum+ models that warms the cabin, using less energy from the car’s battery system.

Technology

Standard on S and S+ trims is the new NissanConnect 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that connects to a 12.3-inch Advanced Drive-Assist Display. SV+ and Platinum+ increase the size of the screens to 14.3 inches. Standard on all trims is wireless Apply CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and Amazon Alexa Built-in. Further, buyers can opt for Google Built-in, which adds native Google apps, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store. The Platinum+ also receives a Head-Up Display as standard.

The all-new Leaf is the first Nissan with Plug & Charge, a feature that, when activated, makes it easier to charge your car at compatible public chargers. Simply plug in, and the car starts charging without the need to use an app or swipe your payment. And thanks to Nissan Energy Charge Network, finding public charging stations has never been easier. With the MyNissan app, you can find stations, see charger availability, and even pay for charging in one simple app. With more than 100,000 in-network chargers across the United States, the Nissan Energy Charge Network is one of the largest public networks in the country.

Safety

Like every other Nissan vehicle, the new Leaf comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360 on every trim level and features Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert. It also features Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Intervention, and Forward Collision Warning.

The 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor features eight different angles that help the driver see a full virtual view of the Leaf and its surroundings. For the first time ever on the Leaf, Front Wide View gives a wide-angle viewpoint to add visibility around parked cars, bushes, and the like when pulling out. Invisible Hood View also allows for a clear view through the hood of the Leaf, making it even easier to drive into tight areas and around curbs.

Every 2026 Leaf comes with ProPILOT Assist, which, combined with Intelligent Cruise Control, helps to assist the car’s steering to keep it centered in the lane and maintain a set speed and safe distance from vehicles ahead.

Nissan is also debuting a first-ever safety tech in Secondary Collision Mitigation Braking. If the air bag control unit detects a collision, the Leaf will apply the brakes to help prevent and minimize an extra accident and reduce the impact of the main collision.
