2025 Nissan Murano

Performance

The 2025 Murano trades in its former 3.5-liter V6 for the technological sophistication of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with Nissan’s innovative variable compression technology. The engine produces 241 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 260 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm. That is 20 more foot-pounds of torque than the previous V6. The variable compression technology allows the best of both worlds. A high boost at low rpm gives you superior low-end torque to get you moving and up to speed quickly. At higher rpm or lower engine load conditions, the higher compression allows for efficient combustion, returning better fuel economy and driving refinement. The engine is paired with an all-new 9-speed transmission, replacing the previous continuously variable transmission. 

The Murano SV has standard front-wheel drive (FWD), and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is available. The SL and Platinum grades have standard AWD. Uniquely, the EPA estimated that both FWD and AWD have the same fuel economy: 23 in the city and 24 on the highway.  

The Murano rides on a four-wheel independent suspension with struts, coil springs, a sold stabilizer bar up front, as well as a multi-link arrangement with a tubular stabilizer bar in the rear. To help improve ride and handling, the new Murano adopts frequency-sensitive dampers and switches to electric power steering. The 2025 Murano is rated to tow up to 1500 pounds. 

Exterior

The 2025 Murano is a feast for the design-appreciative mind. The front has a horizontal theme with ultra-thin “Crystal Cube” LED headlights flanking a gloss-black trim strip above the grille. The grille is a full-width distillation of the Nissan’s V-motion motif with thin, almost hidden multi-level LED daytime running lights presenting themselves on either side. It is an immaculate look that continues through the rest of the exterior.  

The uninterrupted curve of the roofline takes its inspiration from the Ariya EV, with a sharp character line descending from the headlights to the rear door handle. From there, a muscular contour over the rear fender gives the Murano a planted stance. The clean design theme continues at the rear, where LED taillights span the vehicle’s width. The rear wiper is nestled below the upper spoiler, and the license plate is brought down to the bumper, providing a smooth, expansive canvas for the Murano badging. 

Interior

The dash looks like it was pulled from a concept car. Its horizontal theme conveys a sense of spaciousness. The standard dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver gauge cluster and center touchscreen don’t appear as if they were just glued on top of the dash as in some competitors but rather are wrapped within their surroundings with stitched materials.  

The dash features a unique finish called Murano Glass, incorporating color-shift graphics and textures that play with light. It is inspired by the famed Venetian glassworks from which Murano gets its name. The three interior color themes were inspired by the inimitable light quality of golden hour—just before sunset—experienced along the Californian coast. Once seated, passengers’ bodies will only come in contact with soft materials.  

The Platinum model provides the lush feel of Semi-aniline quilted leather-appointed seats. Other available upgrades within the model line include a panoramic moonroof, heated, cooled, and massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, and 64-color ambient lighting throughout the cabin managed by a unique color-spectrum touch slide display on the center screen. Also, as in the Ariya EV, the Murano features a band of capacitive-touch climate controls. The dash-mounted electronically-controlled button transmission selector frees up space in the center console for the standard wireless phone charging pad, cupholders, and other storage areas. 

As a midsize crossover, the Murano has plenty of space for five. Rear passengers enjoy 36.3 inches of legroom and 55.5 inches of shoulder room. With all seats up, there is 32.9 cubic feet of cargo space. When the rear seats are unnecessary, this can expand to 63.5 cubic feet. The Platinum grade features access to the cargo area via a hands-free, motion-activated power liftgate. 

Technology

The Murano SV and Platinum models are the latest in the Nissan lineup to adopt the Google Built-in operating system for its infotainment interface. Popular apps like Google Maps and Google Assistant are on hand, even if no smartphone is connected. Smartphone connection is easy, however, with wireless connection for both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.  

As mentioned, a wireless smartphone charger is also standard across the model line, as is Active Sound Cancellation, which listens to ambient road and wind noise and creates a reverse phase signal through the sound system to help cancel out the sound. Speaking of sound systems, both SL and Platinum grades feature a Bose® 10-speaker audio system to deliver rich, accurate sound throughout the cabin.    

Nissan pioneered the 360-degree camera system, and for the Murano, it expands on the concept with its 3D Intelligent Around View® Monitor. This system allows the user to select from one of eight virtual views “around” the vehicle, including the “Invisible Hood View,” which enables a view of what is blocked by the hood. This is useful on trails or when the road surface is inconsistent.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2025 Murano comes standard with the Nissan Safety Shield® 360. This suite of safety and driver assistance technologies uses sensors and cameras to monitor around the vehicle. The system includes: 

• Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection 

• Lane Departure Warning 

• Blind Sport Warning 

• Rear Cross Traffic Alert 

• Rear Automatic Braking 

• Traffic Sign Recognition 

For more long-distance convenience, the standard ProPilot Assist features both Intelligent Cruise Control and Steering Assist to help you keep a set distance from other vehicles in light or heavy traffic and keep your vehicle centered in the lane when you are momentarily distracted. On SV and Platinum grades, ProPILOT Assist 1.1 enhances the system’s capability by interacting with navigation data to proactively adjust speed ahead of curves based on data about the vehicle’s planned route.
