New Nissan Kicks Shows How to Do Affordable
The old saying, “You get what you pay for,” applies to most things in life, but the equation falls apart with the new Nissan Kicks. The updated subcompact SUV received a significant update for the 2025 model year, giving it boxier styling, new tech, and a more spacious interior—all for a super reasonable price.
Updated Styling
Nissan massaged the Kicks’ exterior, giving it a boxier shape and cleaner lines. The vehicle has a new taillight design with a gloss-black connecting strip, and the exterior is free of loud logos and graphics. Inside, Nissan installed an attractive mix of materials and textures that give the space an eye-catching appeal and make it a much more interesting place to spend time. There’s also a blend of buttons and touch controls, making it easier and less distracting to change settings on the go.
The new Kicks has a more spacious interior than its predecessor, receiving more shoulder and knee room. Its cargo hold offers 30 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats upright, expanding to 60 cubic feet with the rear bench folded flat. The top two trims get a dual-level cargo space with more organization options.
Powertrain Features
Nissan offers one powertrain option for the 2025 Kicks. It’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 141 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. It sends power to the front or all four wheels through Nissan’s continuously variable transmission. Though the output is modest, it’s plenty to get the Kicks moving and more than enough for daily commuting and highway cruising. With a 19-horsepower boost, it’s an improvement over the outgoing model.
Technology Features
Nissan’s user-friendly infotainment system runs on a 7.0-inch touchscreen, which is paired with a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster. More expensive configurations step up to 12.3-inch displays for both. While both systems offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the larger screen brings wireless connectivity.
The Kicks also gets a full suite of advance driver assistance features, starting with Nissan Safety Shield 360. The package includes blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warnings, automatic high beams, and more. The top two trims add ProPilot Assist, which builds on the adaptive cruise control system with lane centering and traffic jam capabilities.
